New Year Resolutions

New Year Resolutions πŸ’—

January is a funny time of year ... some people say it is the 'Monday of months' which I totally understand ... and other's see it as a time to think about the year ahead, new challenges, what they want to achieve in that year ... Which I also completely understand, too! It is dark, grey, wet and often, it can feel like the longest month going and is still forever away from Summer.

But it does get us all thinking about 'resolutions' and what we, often, want to change about ourselves.. They mostly involve weight or appearance change or loss (or they did for me for many years!) and we often have a target in our head of when we will meet the 'resolution has been made' which is often, never!

I went into January promising myself that I would be kind to myself... that I would continue to be more positive, kind and caring to others, but also more to me! A lot of the time we become so wrapped up in others, caring for them, listening to our friends, putting our partners before us, that we forget that we are important! It is okay to have some self-indulgence time! I am often my own biggest critic, and my own worst enemy... and this year I made a promise to go easy on me and to not beat myself up if things go wrong, or not the way I wished them to. So far... not great... but not bad! Hey, I'm only human!

I think the word 'resolutions' needs some consideration and google gave me this:

resolution

rΙ›zΙ™Λˆluːʃ(Ι™)n/
noun
1. a firm decision to do or not to do something.

Which seems good to make a 'firm decision'...  But it makes you think.. why does everyone take it as 'I must change this' or 'I must alter this' as if you are not perfect already as you are?  The word itself is about decisions, not change. We all have our own flaws, faults and hang ups.. I don't think I have ever met anybody who doesn't.  But we are brought up in a world where we are told we must adhere to certain rules, appearances and values.. and if we do not then we must make a 'firm decision' to 'change' it.... See what I mean?! 😐 It is crazy to me...

Therefore, my only resolution for the rest of this year (as we are nearing the end of January- where has it gone?!) is to make a firm decision to be happy... and sod the rest! πŸ˜‹ By all means, do whatever makes you happy and I will be behind you 100%... But never feel like you have to make a change to yourself, if you are perfectly happy being exactly as you are!

Have you made any new years resolutions?  I would love to know!

Lots of love EPπŸ’•
